  I'm writing to inform you about an upcoming change concerning the code signing certificate for both Quick Access Popup (QAP) and my new application, Quick Clipboard Editor (QCE). The current certificate is set to expire in September 2025.
  
  2025-06-16 UPDATE: My certificate provider has made me a reasonable offer to renew my certificate at a price closer to what I paid three years ago. I'll have to pay $625.00 but I'm confident I can raise enough donations from QAP users to make up that amount. You can help me pay this expense here:

  After careful consideration, I've made the difficult decision not to renew it. This was not an easy choice, but the cost of renewal has become prohibitively expensive. The price has escalated significantly, becoming more than three times more expensive than it was just three years ago. As a result, maintaining this certificate is no longer sustainable for free software projects like QAP and QCE.
  
  What does this mean for you?

  Hello Jean,
  
  I thought it was possible to get free certificates at "Let's encrypt".
  I initially heard from this provider, because its root certificate expired one or two years ago (and replaced by a new one) and it was a crucial issue for systems not up-to-date, that was the case of smartphone under Androis 7 or lower.
  
  But maybe its certificates are to certify websites only, and not executables ? I am a complete neophyte in this domain and have no idea about that...
  
  Nevertheless it may worth having a look around this cerification provider..
  
  PS : Anyway, certificate or not, I'll continue to be confident in QAP !

  Hi Laurent,
  
  I did no know "Let's encrypt". I looked at their site. As you suspected, it is only for website encryption. Code signing requires the issuance of a certificate by a recognized authority. This certificate is a file to be kept on software developer's computer and used to sign an executable file.
