  I'm passing this along here in case you'd be interested incorporating this into qap
  
  I found this alttab menu alternative script on git hub that utilizes a .dll to get the icons for microsofts uwp apps. Could work great in the current windows menu.

  I explored this script. It looks interesting. As you indicated, it allows to add specific icons to Windows Apps (UWP) in the QAP "Current Windows" menu. This being said, at least on my system, it was not fully reliable. I tested it with Calc, Maps, Immersive Control Panel and Teams apps. In general, it works only for UWP apps that are *not* minimized. And sometimes, it does not return an icon at all.
  
  Do you have better results with the script?

  It sounds you like you tested it more and with larger variety of apps then I use. (I generally try not to use much of MS Store anything Soo yeah) Haha
  
  I only passed it along after noticing the uwp.dll, just in case you could find a use for it. Dll calls are a bit over my head if I cant just copy & paste it.
  
  You'd be the better judge of it being useful for QAP. You know ahk menus abilites more so than i.
  
  I just started programming my own in Sept and my context menu has a different objective than QAP. There could be a tiny bit of overlap with with QAC thou carried out differently.

  Thanks Jean... I upgraded to 11.6.4.2 and...
  - from what I can see, none of the entries that appear in the "current windows" folder (for open and visible metro apps) had anything but default icons.
  - I culdn't get new QAP favourites to show their correct icons when adding or editing new "windows app" favourites.
  
  Sorry... :| Perhaps there is a more explicit path to exposing this result?
  
  Note I just upgraded from Win11 23H2 to 24H2... not sure if that could make a difference.

  I tested again with the Windows app "Microsoft.WindowsCalculator". Could you try with this app?
  
  Remember that the icon extractor does not work when apps are minimized. Make sure the app windows is normal or maximized when checking the "Current Windows" menu.

  - it shows the proper favorites icon on the QAP settings Menu Options page for that app if I had just selected Microsoft.WindowsCalculator from the "WindowsApp" pulldown.
  - If I then Save and close the settings window(s), the icon on the live QAP menu will be a generic one.
  - If I go back into the favorite's settings again, the icon will also be reset to a default.
  - Same happens with the other apps I was already trying to get the icons to work for.

  Hum... I can't reproduce this issue. For me, the icon are kept after I save the menu, are displayed under the "My Windows Apps" menu and in the "Current Windows" menu when the app is not minimized (not for all apps however - some apps, for example "AppleInc.iCloud - iCloud" never show in the "Current Windows" menu).
  
  About icons in the QAP menu, I did not mention that you have to remove favorites that were in your menu before v11.6.4.2 and add them again. It is only when you add a favorite that its icon is created (from a temporary .lnk file) and saved in the subfolder "...\icons\" under the QAP Settings Folder.
  
  Can you check if your icons are in the subfolder "...\icons\"?

  A note about another app I tested: "Microsoft.Todos". In this case, on my system, the icon returned by the extractor DLL (for the "Current Windows" menu) does not return the correct image path. It returns:
  
  C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Todos_2.114.7122.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Assets\Square44x44Logo.png
  
  The parent folder "Assets" exists but the image file does not. I just mention this to reduce expectations about the reliability of all our tricks around these UPP apps...

  I've been away from my computer the past month, finally home and checking this out.
  
  I have *current windows* & *current applications* submenu under my *THE WORKS* menu...
  
  I have 3 windows stores apps open, caluclator, weather, and wintoys > https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9p8ltp...n-US&gl=US
  
  weather's icon is seen on both menus
  calculator's icon is only seen in the *current applications* submenu, in *current windows* it's qap default icon
  and wintoys is not seen in either. And by not seen I mean... Its not showing up as existing at all, qap isn't seeing it whatsoever.
  
  .... looking for other MS Store apps I have, which are very few...
  
  earturmpt, is also not seen
  
  when I run *list applications windows* item wintoys and eartrumpt are also no seen there.
  
  
  ... Cross referencing the alt-tab menu...
  
  it's also a bit off. With 3 caluclators windows open it only shows the icon for 1 of them, wintoys is shown thou with a low 4 bit gif icon, and ear thrumpt still is not show at all.
  
  it a bit hit or miss on both side.
  
  either way even if its not consistent at least I apprentice when they icons appear. : - )
  
  in on windows 10 still if that's any help, I know things are changing in win11 and umm, no. Haha.

  Can you check if your icons are in the subfolder "...\icons\"?
  
  SS: Sorry, where is this located? My system's QAP settings folder is is "c:\users\[ME]\Documents\Quick Access Popup\" which has no subfolders. The ini file also points to this folder for IconsCustomFolder.
  
  To be clear, my new process for checking this involves first removing any existing favourite links in my QAP menus... then  ensuring the metro app is running and visible onscreen, and then checking the current apps/windows menus, as well as where I added the new favourite.

  Sorry, I forgot to mention that the custom QAP icons are stored in the folder you select in "Options, Menu Icons". By default, it is the QAP Settings folder itself. I changed mine for [QAP_ Settings_folder]\icons\.

  I also saw Windows Apps not showing their icon in the "Current Windows" menu. I have no solution for this. QAP tries to retrieve the icons for all running apps and does not always succeed.

  To also be clear, removing existing favorite is only required to replace a favorite in your QAP menu created before the fix in the last release. This is required only once. The icons of the newly created favorite should remain after you save the favorites or restart QAP. If it does not, this is an issue I can't reproduce.
  
  And "ensuring the metro app is running and visible onscreen" (ie "not minimized") is required only for the "Current Windows" dynamic menu. This is not related to the apps in your QAP menu.

  To be honest, I'm a little discouraged by the weak level of support provided by Windows API for Windows Apps. Unless an AHK developer with more experience than me in this area can help me out, I think we're going to have to live with what we have now and accept generic icons when that's all QAP can display.

  At least windows inadequacies allows us to play with tools like ahk to play with.

  Last note on this topic: I released v11.6.4.2.1 that replaces the DLL component to retrieve Windows Apps (UWP) icons with the same file signed with my certificate (in order to minimize false virus alerts).
