I know there has been some discussion about QAP running on AHK and it being single threaded, run on an ini file etc. If you really bog it down, it makes sense that it would run slow, but I have a fresh install and in no time at all, it takes a second to load, and it is not uncommon to take 2 secs.
Is there anyway to speed this up?
I have an i7 coffee lake with 32 gb of ram
the only think I can think of is that I have 2 remote drives that I mostly don't connect to because they require a vpn, so I keep them disconnected unless I need them.

your issue comes directly from your 2 remote drives that are mostly not connected.
There were in the past an issue with not connected devices,
This issue has been solved in rev 11.0.7, thanks to a parameter allowing to "declare" such drives.

That didn't fix it.
I checked the box, marked the letters in the input field, and saved and restarted qap. No change. I confirmed those are all my network drives. I also disabled drives in case that would fix it, no change.
its only a second or two, but its annoying, and It doesn't happen on my desktop pc. -

You could try the "detached" dynamic menus option to see if it makes a difference in the time it takes to show the main menu:

Thanks. I detached it as well, things seem a little faster, but it is not as zippy as on my other machine. C'est la vie. -

When the menu is detached, QAP takes less time to show the menu because it does not have to refresh the dynamic menus. But, personally, I find it more convenient to have these menus attached and prefer to wait 1-2 more seconds for this.
You could also try to disable the database ("Options, Database"). In theory, with the database, showig the menu should be faster (a bit) but it could depend on your drive speed. If you disable the database, you won't have the "Frequent" menus under "In the works". -

Try the just released new update - Version: 11.6.4. I also had pop-up delays and like you mentioned, the suggested fixes were not great or consistent, such as: Disabling network drives, detaching menus, etc. The new ver seems much faster. Interested in your feedback when you've had a chance to try. I'm on a Win10 system. There are times when I just can't be bothered using QAP because of the delays. So far, testing in File explorer, Word, Excel, and Totalcommander are faster than they've been for a while and consistent. -

I'm sorry to say that nothing in the new release could be a reason why showing the menu would be faster.
The time needed to refresh the QAP menu cannot be consistent. It always depend on the content to be added to the dynamic menus (above all, the number of new items in the "Recent Items" system folder since the last QAP menu call) and the time it takes to Windows to respond to QAP requests. Sometimes it seems that Windows has some background tasks needed to be performed before responding to QAP.

Thanks for the reply. I did check your release notes and as you said there was nothing mentioned that helps explain my observed behavior. The delays prior to yesterday in QAP were so long that I had actually quit using the app. And now (day two since upgrade) it's instantaneous. I made no changes to any settings.
Whatever you didn't do, keep doing it!
