Hello

I'm trying to figure out why I got an issue with a simple snippet sending text & special key.

Here is my snippet

New security updates have been approved for the GxP Workstation environment{Tab}VV-0149608{Tab}{Tab}2179{Tab}{&Sleep:1500}{Tab}{Tab}{Tab}MyText{Tab}{&Sleep:1500}{Tab}{Tab}{Tab}{Tab}{Tab}{Space}

Unfortunatly it seems {Tab} management is a bit hard and hazardous . Sometimes it misses 1 or 2 {Tab}, sometimes it adds one more where it is not expected as you can see in the attached pic

I tried to replace {Tab} by `t or use "Ctrl+Tab" with the "Automatically encoded end-of-lines and tabs" option activated, but no change.

What am I doing wrong ?

The QAP version? 11.5.7.1 (64bit)

Was it installed using the Setup program or the Portable zip file? portable

What is your Windows version? W11pro

{Tab} is the code to use. "Automatically encoded end-of-lines and tabs" has no effect on this issue. It is only a display option.

Try slowing down the execution of the macro snippet by beginning your snippet with

{&SetKeyDelay:100}

This inserts a pause of 100 ms (0,1 second) between each key. Reduce it or move it just before the keys causing issues.

Thank for your input but unfortunatly this makes no change. Tab are still too many or missing

I also noticed something strange :
the snippet is acting differently based on the application you use.
If I add it in notepad++ I got the behaviour explained in the first post.
If I do the same in Word I always got the same right number of tab everytime i run the snippet
same with wordpad

Sounds a weird issue

To troubleshoot this and to see what QAP actually sends you might try KeyboardStateView by Nirsoft.
(KSV does not require installation or admin rights).
It lists input keys pressed.

PS! I don't know if it detects physical keys only, or both virtual/scripts and physical keys.

We should say that applications react differently to the keys sent by QAP. QAP is acting the same in every case. You have to change the content of your snippet to adapt it to the application (of course, this makes a snippet specific to this application).

In the case of Notepad++, it is probably related to the autocomplete dropdown menu displayed by the editor depending on the text sent by the snippet. Try disabling Auto-completion in Settings to confirm this. If it works well without autocompletion, try re-enabling it and insert {Esc} to close the autocompletion menus where the appear in an unwanted way. This could require many trial/error. Setting a very slow keystroke pace like {&SetKeyDelay:1000} could help to see where are the undesired menus.

Sorry for the late reply

Autocompletion was the one messing the entries in N++. Thanks for info.

Now I'll play a bit with sleep and setkeydelay to get the same result each time !
