I use QAP to store common steps which I frequently share with others using Snippets. In some cases, it's easiest to include a system variable such as:
%LocalAppData%\Path\To\Particular\Folder
This folks to copy and paste this path and go straight to the correct location on their particular system. My problem is that QAP insists on expanding these system variables to my system's location (C:\Users\Nilt\AppData\Local\Path\To\Particular\Folder) whenever they're sent in a snippet. Is there some way I'm missing in the settings to prevent this from occurring? I've tried setting the mode to both text and macro without success.
Many of my steps include such things. It's much simpler to be able to include the variable and how to paste it into a Windows Explorer window than to detail how to get there the long way.
My QAP is v11.5.3 (64 bit) and I installed it via the Setup file. I'm using Windows Explorer for my file manager and am on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit v21H2. -

Hi Nilt,
This is a good point. There is no way to disable environment variables expansion in QAP at this time.
In a future release, it could be done by using an escape character. For example: \%windir\%. This would avoid the expansion of %windir%. QAP would have when pasting the snippet, to replace \% with %. A side effect would be for user really wanting to include \w in their snippet. In this case, they would have to double the escape character \\%.

Afterthought solution! Switch your snippet to Macro mode and use this special key:
{ASC 37}windir{ASC 37}

That was my initial thought, that something along those lines may be available but I was missing in searching for it. I appreciate you moving it into a "ToDo".

That did the job just fine for now. Thanks! I could work around it but this makes my steps much cleaner. I'll keep an eye on future versions, of course! Just recently came across QAP when looking at automating some of my common steps with AHK and like what I've found so far. I'll be donating once we get past the holidays here. -

After additional investigation, I just realized that environment variables expansion in snippets is the result of a bug introduced in v11.5.3. Please read the following post and continue the discussion there if you wish.
