When I try to search for QAP updates, I get an error.

After upgrading to the latest version, when trying to search for updates, same problem

Of course the program is unblocked on the firewall
Several versions (beta) earlier I was informed when a new version was released.

Unfortunately searching via the tray icon gives an error
Interesting observation. When I search for updates through the settings panel (all is OK) and then try again through the Tray icon (then there is an error) and then again through the settings panel then there is also an error (in the settings panel). I have to restart the settings panel to make the update check succeed (settings panel) -

The QuickAccessPopup.com server was upgraded on Aug. 18th. It seems to coincide with the 14 days delay reported by Endrju.
It could be that your firewall "remember" the IP address of the previous server instead of the new server. I don't know how your firewall setting works but could you see if you can "refresh" tue QuickAccessPopup.com entry in your firewall settings, or try removing the QuickAccessPopup.com entry and enter it again? -

I already did this yesterday (I have deleted and re-entered) but unfortunately no change, the error still occurs. -

A normal configured Firewall doesn't need any special rules for the QAP update check to work.
I never had to change anything for this. -

The previous "internal" address of the QAP server was 'cs14.uhcloud.com'. It is now 'cs20.uhcloud.com'. Maybe allowing 'cs20.uhcloud.com' in your firewall could solve this issue. -

I have allowed full traffic for quickaccesspopup-64-bit.exe
I use the portable version but I don't think it matters. -

I was going to add that it is more probably an issue with your antivirus/malware protection software. You could try disabling it for a minute and see if this allow the communication. -

Today I tried QAP on my friend's new, clean system. Unfortunately, but on a clean system there is also this error (see attachment)

what could "remember" is the DNS cache.
Did people with problem tried to run in a command window : Ipconfig /flushdns
PS : BTW, on my side, no issue neither in checking for updates, nor in managing licence -

Same here as LaurentG.
No problem with Windows 10 or Windows Server, both virtual and physical machines. stand alone, member of Active Directory, and even two very locked down ones connected to Azure AD (I don't have admin rights on those two).
Does the update check use http or https? (Edit1: Never mind, the TCP connection is on port 443, so https)
Could it be a certificate or protocol issue?

Some more info, when I use "Help --> Check for update", QAP does a DNS query (Type: AAAA) to www.quickaccesspopup.com, the returned IP address is: 192.81.170.12.
QAP then opens a TCP connection (actually two) to that IP, but the hostname resolves to: cs20.uhcloud.com on port 443

Working with some QAP users (thanks to them) and my Internet provider, we tried to find the cause of this error (occurring only for Win 7, 8 or 8.1 users, as it seems from error reports we received). But we can't fix it and time is running out. This is what led me to now take a decision about QAP's future that I had been thinking about for some time.

I tested v.11.5 (64-bit) on a fully patched Win 8.1 system (64-bit).
The update check fails because the system sends a HTTP request to the server when the server expects HTTPS.
I'm speculating here, but this is probably because the service provider has tightened their security settings (a good thing).
Did a very quick search but couldn't find any solution, didn't dig deep though...
The server reply:
Code:(< html><head><title>400 Bad Request</title></head> <body>.<h2>HTTPS is required</h2 >.<p>This is an SSL protected page, please use the HTTPS scheme instead of the plain HTTP scheme to access this URL.<br/>.<blockquote>Hint: The URL should starts with<b>https </b>://</blockquote> </p>.<hr />

@Endrju: the command was returning a wrong result. In your case, because of the communication issue, it was not supposed to work. It is now fixed and works for user snot having the communication issue.

@joeNOR: Thanks for investigating this issue. Interesting but the check for update URL sent by QAP is really HTTPS (https://www.quickaccesspopup.com/latest/...sion-4.php). Maybe it is transformed by error at some step of the IP routing? On what Windows version did you run this test? -

This was tested on a fully patched Windows 8.1 system, 64-bit version, lang: International English.
I have updated to v.11.5 on all my other systems (with Windows 10, Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2016).
The Windows 8.1 installation is the ONLY one that fails.
So, maybe something strange with WinHTTP/AHK on 8.1?
Windows 8.1 sends a request on port 443, the HTTPS port, but the server replies as stated in the previous post.
So it either sends a HTTP request, or some garbage that the server thinks is HTTP. (My guess is the first one).
I haven't checked with a protocol analyzer like Wireshark (and, I'm sorry, but I don't have time to troubleshoot an OS I stopped using several years ago ), used a simpler tool just to see the server response.
Those interested might want to use Wireshark and/or the Fiddler Web Debugging Proxy to narrow this down.
