Doing this would have impacts for other users using the Shift key to open the Alternative menu or trigger one of the Alternative menu shortcuts. You call it a bug but it is not. It is just that QAP is made in a way that prevents you from doing what you want. But everything works as expected.
I was going to test a few things around this. But, before digging more, I found that just pressing the Shift key immediately after having selected the item in the QAP menu does just what you want. Could you try it?

(you certainly meant "not" a bug) Yes. I know this can be a frustrating answer from the user point of view. But, in this case, it is just the plain reality ;-)

Unfortunately, I do not see one without risking side effects for actual use cases.
