The subject says it all.
If I redirect the DirMenu section in TC
QAP doesn't find it if the file name is not a fully qualified path.
TC itself allows to use file name only which is searched in the same location as the wincmd.ini.
This is importand for a portable installation.

Hi Horst,

What is the content of your section [DirMenu] with redirection?

[DirMenu]
RedirectSection=...

Mine was:

[DirMenu]
RedirectSection=%Commander_Path%\dirmenu.ini

QAP was trying to expand this path relative to the TC directory but was failing because it did not know about %Commander_Path%. If I change it to:

[DirMenu]
RedirectSection=dirmenu.ini

It works, QAP expanding the path of dirmenu.ini to the folder where is the WinCmd.ini file (%APPDATA%\GHISLER\ in my case). Any relative path (using ..\ etc.) would be expanded based on %APPDATA%\GHISLER\.

QAP cannot read system variables set by TC such as %Commander_Path%. But if %Commander_Path% has to remain in this path, QAP it could replace it with "%APPDATA%\GHISLER\" that it already knows. Would this make it work?

Good. Do you agree that if QAP finds %Commander_Path% in the RedirectSection= path, it should replace it with the folder of WinCmd.ini entered in QAP "Options, File Managers"?

Yes, thats the only way you have running not in the TC process context.

I did not remember it but there was a note in this page about TC's "pseudo" environment variables:

"Note: Applications launched from Total Commander can use some TC exclusive environment variables like %COMMANDER_PATH% or %COMMANDER_EXE% (see the Pseudo environment variables section of this page). These variables are unknown from QAP if you launch QAP before Total Commander.

To use these variables in your QAP configuration, for example if the variable %COMMANDER_PATH% is used in a redirection command for the Directory HotList data ([DirMenu] section of the settings file wincdm.ini) or to use TC variables in your favorites paths, you must launch QAP from Total Commander. This can be done manually but can also be automated at startup using a plugin like Autorun."

I'll add a note about the %Commander_Path% being expanded starting with v11.3.1 (to be released).

Replacing %Commander_Path% in redirection path is don in beta release in beta release v11.3.0.9.1.

New findings about Total Commander ini system variables. In my TC config, %Commander_Path% contains the path to the TC executable file (C:\totalcmd), not the path of the WinCmd.ini file. In my TC config, %Commander_Ini% contains the path and file name of the ini file.

Seing this, I don't think it is save to assume that %Commander_Path% can be replaced with the path of the WinCmd.ini file.

I think I should revert to what was done before v11.3.0.9.1: expand the RedirectSection path (if it is relative) based on the WinCmd.ini location. If the path contains a TC system variable, it should remove it in order to use the Hotlist menu in QAP.

Agreed, it should be working for most users.

QAP Beta v11.3.0.9.2 fixed the problem.
Works now as requested with actual TC 10.0RC2
