Full Version: Can't save changes to the Options menu
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
Whenever I change any setting in the Options menu and then try to save them, I'm getting the message: "This folder does not exist: Do you want to create it?".
Pressing Yes just causes the message to pop up again and this repeats indefinitely.

Unfortunately, I don't really know on which version this started since I haven't tried changing settings for while.

Any ideas? Thanks for any help!
Hi Toastman,

Sorry for that. A few questions:

What QAP version are you using?
Is there a folder identified in the error message?
What file manager did you select in Options, File Managers?

Hi Jean, thanks for the reply!

 - I'm using version 10.2

 - There's no information about the folder in the error. I've attached a screenshot of the error, it's pretty basic.

 - I have "Windows Explorer" selected in the Options.

Normally, there would be the folder path in this message. It means that this value is empty.

Did you installed with the Setup program or the Portable ZIP file?

In "Options", "General" tab, check if you have valid paths in these fields:
- Settings Folder (only if you installed QAP using the Setup program - this textbox is not displayed if you installed the portable zip file)
- Main settings file backup folder
- Temporary folder

Jean

I did install this using the Setup file.

As for the paths, it seems like the "Settings Folder" box is empty and I can't seem to add anything into it. Whenever I tried to enter a path I get an error saying:
"You cannot move the settings folder under itself". I tried various different paths including the drive root.

I also tried re-installing using a fresh downloaded file, but the problem persists.

Attached the General Options menu for reference. Note that the "Settings folder" box is initially empty when the dialog box is opened. This is me entering a path to show the error.
This is an unusual situation where the Settings folder is empty. With you help, I'll try to make QAP handle this exception.

Try opening the Settings folder using the "File, Open QAP Settings Folder" menu in Customize window. What folder is open?

If you are familiar with the Windows Registry, what is the value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Jean Lalonde\Quick Access Popup\WorkingFolder"?

If you are familiar with the Windows Registry, what is the value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Jean Lalonde\Quick Access Popup\WorkingFolder"?

The "AppData\Roaming\Quick Access Popup" folder is opened and it is populated, not empty.

The value in the registry contains the same path.
The Settings folder value in the registry is good and the folder is correctly open. The problem is that this value is not loaded in the Options window. I could not tell why. I'll investigate this.
I'll add some diagnostic code and a temporary fix in the next release. I'll send you instructions to run the diagnostic when this release is ready. It should be Tomorrow. Sorry for that.
The temporary fix has been released in v10.2.1 and Toastman confirmed by email that it worked (he can now save the Options).

But there is still something to investigate. Diag code revealed that on his system QAP can't read the "Settings Folder" value in the Windows registry. Other uses can (if they could not, they could not save any change in the options).

Thanks Toastman for you help.
